Following the many new features of the LCD and LED, it is questionable whether there is still a future for the plasma. It ‘just that one of the issues we discussed the LG Blogger Forum 2010. The answer to that LG can not be convinced you. The Korean company continues to invest in the plasma, although growth has slowed. Clearly the technology is not number one, but the quality is excellent and LG plasma does not going to leave this category of TV. Because the plasma is not a passing fad? Essentially, broadcasters that use this gas can smoothly display the movements faster, whereas the LCD is not losing any inconvenience. The refresh comes to 0.001 ms with 12 subfields per frame. In general, moreover, the plasma has a wider viewing angle making it unnecessary to turn the TV to watch the images.

To overcome the problem of consumption, some models use the technology variable power “. While it remains true that at times of maximum brightness Plasma TVs consume more than the LCD in dark scenes can consume less power saving.

Introduction

In the continuous search for ways to analyze the quality of the displays several times in the recent past I have tried to address the viewing angle, thereby stressing the excessive optimism of some data reported by producers of TV and LCD display technology. Largely because of the lack of appropriate equipment, I could only go into that in recent months.

The viewing angle average reported by various manufacturers of monitors and LCD display by passes around 160 ° both horizontally and vertically but in some cases even comes close to selling 180. By not addressing the discourse on whether to observe the surface of a display at such high angles, which would bring us more in the field of clinical psychology, it is interesting to note that in addition to those values of viewing angles are rarely published parameters within which this angle is determined.

One of the few companies that decided to also publish benchmarks that gave the BenQ is very courageous, some of LCD display technology that were analyzed in order to complete this study. For example, between the technical characteristics of the display FP71GX located here, we read that the viewing angle of 160 ° is within a contrast ratio greater than 5:1.

The contrast ratio of that declared by BenQ display is equivalent to 500:1. This means that watching the display from a side angle of 80 °, contrast ratio down to 5:1. The value measured in terms of default is somewhat smaller (approximately 350:1), but still quite high and the measurement made at an angle of 80 ° is not very far from that stated by BenQ. But it really makes sense to speak of “visibility” with contrast ratios so low?

Before answering this question, as seems good put aside for a moment the contrast ratio and see what the theory tells us about the behavior of the display.

To begin with, one point higher on Samsung: the use of LEDs for backlighting is a very efficient way to reduce power consumption and the environmental impact when removing the TV.

Having said that, I am immediately struck by the beautiful object is surprisingly flat and thin, seems the Macbook Air in the TV version. Once turned on, immediately noticed a vague difficulty setting. I imagine my mother who understands him, bring him home stick antenna plug, and go away: what would you do? Power on, power off and then … called his son to tune the channels.

Fortunately there is a simplified remote control, but usually to regulate even the most simple function must engage. With the PlayStation 3 game with pleasure: the image quality is vivid, enjoyable, with strong contrasts. The problems, if they were real problems arise when I decide to see a movie. Like all modern televisions,There are thousands of options to enhance your image (stabilizers, filters, sharpening, correction, Noise Reduction), once all set to zero, the image begins to really like. In my opinion, in fact, that our eyes are not accustomed to perfection and then research the perfect image on a television does is make it unnatural.

That’s what I perceive with the contrast, for example, now among the virtues of a color TV is always indicated a high value of this function. Indeed, a normal picture, applying a strong contrast, it becomes brilliant and captivating. Technically, however, this process involves a compression color space and thus result in a reduction of nuances.

WHAT: SAMSUNG LED TV SERIES 7000

Category: TV color 40-inch Full HD Features: frame rate to 100 Hz (moving images without wake effect), Ultra Clear Panel to gloss effect asPC monitor, Internet connection. Price: 2199 € Info: www.samsung.com

WHY: LED TECHNOLOGY EDGE

The Samsung uses a new backlight system for a large number of small LEDs, arranged on either side of the panel, giving brightness and contrast better than the traditional LCD and can reduce the thickness of just 2.5 centimeters.

WITH WHOM: FRANCESCO GRISI

It is the magician Italian visual effects. Formed in Hollywood ( “Batman & Robin, The Cell) beforebase Edi, Digital Effects Italians. Among his more recent productions, H2 Odio, The Caiman and the cosmos on the dresser. Who better than he can for us to test the image quality of a TV?

PARTICULARLY

Vocation Multimedia

In addition to the four HDMI ports, the USB and the various audio and video inputs, outlet stands out: it is used to connect the Samsung to the Internet and receive news, weather, interact with friends from YouTube, Yahoo and Facebook, without your PC.

Too many commands

The functions to be managed with the remote control are many, perhaps too many. For the lazy, there is also a controller included simplified serves only to change channels and adjust volume. The instructions for use are in a USB stick.

As a framework

For several years the Samsung TV are those with the design more appealing. Even the 7000 series does not disappoint: a red and black livery, borders, transparent and very small thickness (2.5 cm). With Special brackets (optional) you can hang on the wall.

We talked at length of TV sets with LED backlighting to explain in detail the differences more or less than a normal LCD TV illuminated with classic lamps.

It is not never touched the subject of High Definition, is a complex phenomenon than the usual now Full HD TVs (where HD stands for High Definition of course) that promise, and in fact maintain high standards visual but at the moment of going to buy a new TV when we get into the shop a terrible doubt assails us obviously, better Full HD LED or Full?

The thing to clear up is that LCD and LED’s are virtually the same thing, the technology is concerned with only the LED-backlit screen, which is and remains an LCD. The LED is the fashion of the moment and for this reason, it could only prolong this and jump on buying a TV of this type, basically the main difference compared to the Full LED Full HD are to be found primarily in size, because the technology allows to assemble Full LED TVs thinner than the others and then also in great energy savings.

The classic lamp consumes more power and also kept alight, diodes rather than to consume less, however, turn on and off managing to bring the savings to nearly 50% over what can be achieved with a Full HD.

From the perspective of the picture we are facing two TVs that can ensure brilliance of color and visual quality really excellent, however the Full LED can boast of something that has not Full HD. The first fact have a higher accuracy in the reproduction of black and dark colors, thanks to the fact that the LED can go out locally, and therefore unable to provide a depth and a three-dimensional ever before seen on a television.

In sold on therefore the two models differ from each other but the differences are not enormous and the state for some consumers may not be sufficient to justify the higher price of Full LED. However, one thing is clear, the technology of the future is the LED and in a few years, thanks to prices that inevitably will drop, take over.

Fashions, you know, are seldom rational. This year is in the fashion of LED televisions. You see better, consume less, are more subtle. This and other sellers to tell us the latest model from more than 1,000 euros for a handful of inches. But it is really worth? A TV LED is always the best choice? The answer is clear: certainly not. Let’s motivate them well, even for the most skeptical.

First stated that LED is not a technology different from LCD. LED TVs are all common effects of LCD, from which differ only because lit by LEDs instead of fluorescent lamps and CCFL EEFL. All. This subtle difference is the cause of the thickness is reduced to the lower energy consumption. If someone tells you to choose an LED because “it looks best LCD,” not only did not understand anything, but it also says something absolutely not true. The reason why you see some TV LED actually better that normally are the most recent products, where manufacturers fit other improvements. How to refresh faster (100Hz or 200Hz), higher screen resolutions, better color rendering, and so on. All things not absolutely dependent on the LED, but the quality of the LCD panel.

Yet the current fashion is heading in that direction, so anyone thinking of buying a TV these days, undoubtedly will (or will be induced to do so by dealers and friends Alec) LEDs. Mind you, surely the technology is in that direction and soon (it is estimated for late 2011) no producer will have more to list non-LED models. Besides the beauty of a TV so thin that you get well below 1 cm is undeniable. But it is true that in many cases the profile of the TV did not even see. So could wind up spending twice as much for a feature totally useless.Beautiful, but useless. Exceeded the early days of our friends envied us when we see “what is fine” our television, sitting at the sofa, it will be business as usual. So it is really worth?

And then there’s the energy issue. LEDs, by their very nature, consume less of CCFL lamps, so a well backlit TV will normally have a lower energy consumption. But this is not always true, because the latter have an LCD power optimization in some cases is better than a TV LED, if not at the top of the range. Also talk about figures not so important as you can imagine, especially if you do not use television 24/24h. The speech “consume less” only applies if you make the comparison between televisions of the same brand and same quality, but otherwise, it is a known that an LED consumes less than an LCD.

Why buy a TV LED then? In my opinion only do this if the thickness is really low important for the provision of the TV or if you use the TV so much that even the reduced power can be a real asset. In all other cases, the only sensible reason should be: “buy it because I like it” or “buy it because I absolutely want the latest technologies.”

I purposely have not mentioned the Plasma. Because that’s how things are going. It talks about LCD and LED increasingly forgetting who offers quality better. And on this point there’s no ifs and buts that takes. Plasmas are still on the top step. But do little in the media “frenzy”, especially since many homes do not have the capacity and technology to achieve them, so we say that LCD is better. And the curious thing is that because of the silly fashions, are now even more convenient. I saw with my own eyes a Full HD Plasma Panasonic 42 “600Hz sold 789Euro, near a 32″ LED that exceeded the1000 Euro. And the last straw is that it was clearly visible, even to a non-expert eye, that the plasma offered a better quality video. But all admired the LED. Crap.

But we like that, like the absurd fighting megapixel photography (which we know is not a sign of higher quality), we propose and TV advertising with incredible brightness and contrast values. Values that laboratories have certified to be absolutely false and not achievable. But there are people who buy them just for that reason, expecting a better quality video. But in this war of numbers and big words, there’s only one thing you can trust: our eyes. Televisions good quality not seen by the bright colors and strong light (which in fact shows some excesses unrealistic), but the dark tones. The black should be black and not gray and dark tones but not all blacks must be clearly distinguishable from black. These are things most of all identify a good TV. And do not be fooled by those wily retailers who faced a television on which to transmit a signal to another low in HD on which to spin the BluRay-Disc in FullHD. Are all eyecatching forced to make it appear a better model compared to another.

You have to buy a new TV and you decide between LCD or LED? Buy a Plasma and your eyes will thank you, along with yourportfolios. Also according to recent research, plasma TVs also much less stressed out the view. And if you’re thinking about size, know that people say is too big “makes another big blunder. The largest television are more relaxing because it requires less effort visually.

So take the 2,000 Euro which was planning to spend on new TV LED spend half to buy a Plasma (Panasonic maybe) and the remaining money or take a gift to your wife or children. Trust me, you will not regret.

A TV natural, subtle colors more brilliant, which consumes much less of an LCD screen classic. We talk about the LED-LCD TV, the novelty of the moment. In a classic LCD screen lighting comes from some fluorescent lights placed behind the screen, but a little ‘light still unable to filter through, creating problems of contrast.

The cells of liquid crystals are never completely opaque and the classic blackis never “really” black, but it seems rather a gray compromising image quality. The natural solution of the current LED-LCD TVs has been to use instead of a grid of fluorescent light-emitting diodes (LED). Is thus changed the lighting of the screen and you can change its brightness, or even shut it down completely in many areas independently of each other.

The benefits range from the strong increase contrast, further reducing the thickness of the screens (LEDs take up less space) and reduce power consumption by 40% at constant brightness. Currently, the only disadvantage of LED-LCD TVs in the price is higher than the conventional LCD.

Here are the prices of a TV LED!

We can define at least three categories with LED backlight, however, very different.

- Edge-LED : the LED is only on the edge of the screen (edge means precisely”Edge”).

- Backlight-LED : a backlighting produced by a grid of white LEDs placed directly behind the LCD screen. Compared to the Edge-LED technology has a greater thickness but greater accuracy.

- RGB-LED : the most important difference compared to the previous category is that the LED, instead of producing white light, producing a light of three colors that combine to form an apparently uniform backlight, with apurest light and uniform compared to white LEDs and a better color rendering.

If the LED-LCD televisions are a perfect solution, today the technology is trying to eliminate all the LCD screen, and create the image using direct light from the LEDs themselves.

The display already exists and is called OLED (the “O” stands for “organic”, since the use of thin films of organic substances). The tiny LEDs create the image without the need for backlighting in because of its already light of his own, with the result of a remarkable brightness of the LCD. The advantages are magnified compared to LED-LCD Tv: higher brightness, higher contrast, reduced power.
