Buying Guide to LCD TV and Plasma(Part 2)

By admin

2 – What are the characteristics of a TV?

The key issues to consider

- Screen Size

The screen size is expressed in inches (26, 32, 37, 40, 42, 46, and so on). This value indicates the length of the diagonal of the screen. The longer the diagonal and the greater the effect cinema. A great diagonal is useful for getting the most out of formats for high definition (HD), Blu-ray and broadcasts the latest generation (cable TV, satellite, or on demand via ADSL).

- HD Ready

The standard for high definition digital (HD Ready or Full HD) and Blu-ray will allow you to watch movies in high definition, at best, to 1080 lines (think that the patterns of previous TV displays images at only 576 lines!). However, only the best TV can fully display these 1080 lines. The entry-level models have a resolution ranging from 720 to 768 lines and do not always see all the details typical of HD.

- Technology: Plasma or LCD?

Although the production of plasma TVs is increasingly falling, they involve a number of advantages. Black, for example, is much more intense on plasma screens, while on the LCD end economic darker tones tend to gray. The plasma TV also offer the opportunity to be viewed from any angle, while a point of view too lateral undermines the vision of the image on a TV monitor. In contrast, LCDs are not damaged when it appears, for too long, the same image. This concern arises, however, with plasma televisions, which also suffer from ghosting effect (for details, see the section of the image frequency). For this reason, you should avoid connecting the console and PC to a plasma TV. The use of a plasma to watch television programs or movies does not create a DVD no problem.

- Frequency image

The frequency of the image of a TV standard, end the economic, is usually 50 Hertz. At 100 Hertz, the amount of images displayed per second is twice as high. A higher frequency imaging brings benefits in terms of fluidity of the image:
- The rapid movements are more defined and less subject to blur known as “ghosting”;
- A television set from 100 Hz optimizes the yield of the scenes of movement (typical action movie) “creating” the extra frames, not present in the original film stock. The major producers of TV market call this feature in different ways (Motionflow, TruMotion, Movie Plus, HD Natural Motion, 24p Real Cinema).
