LCD, LED, Plasma: a bit of clarity and some advice
By
Fashions, you know, are seldom rational. This year is in the fashion of LED televisions. You see better, consume less, are more subtle. This and other sellers to tell us the latest model from more than 1,000 euros for a handful of inches. But it is really worth? A TV LED is always the best choice? The answer is clear: certainly not. Let’s motivate them well, even for the most skeptical.
First stated that LED is not a technology different from LCD. LED TVs are all common effects of LCD, from which differ only because lit by LEDs instead of fluorescent lamps and CCFL EEFL. All. This subtle difference is the cause of the thickness is reduced to the lower energy consumption. If someone tells you to choose an LED because “it looks best LCD,” not only did not understand anything, but it also says something absolutely not true. The reason why you see some TV LED actually better that normally are the most recent products, where manufacturers fit other improvements. How to refresh faster (100Hz or 200Hz), higher screen resolutions, better color rendering, and so on. All things not absolutely dependent on the LED, but the quality of the LCD panel.
Yet the current fashion is heading in that direction, so anyone thinking of buying a TV these days, undoubtedly will (or will be induced to do so by dealers and friends Alec) LEDs. Mind you, surely the technology is in that direction and soon (it is estimated for late 2011) no producer will have more to list non-LED models. Besides the beauty of a TV so thin that you get well below 1 cm is undeniable. But it is true that in many cases the profile of the TV did not even see. So could wind up spending twice as much for a feature totally useless.Beautiful, but useless. Exceeded the early days of our friends envied us when we see “what is fine” our television, sitting at the sofa, it will be business as usual. So it is really worth?
And then there’s the energy issue. LEDs, by their very nature, consume less of CCFL lamps, so a well backlit TV will normally have a lower energy consumption. But this is not always true, because the latter have an LCD power optimization in some cases is better than a TV LED, if not at the top of the range. Also talk about figures not so important as you can imagine, especially if you do not use television 24/24h. The speech “consume less” only applies if you make the comparison between televisions of the same brand and same quality, but otherwise, it is a known that an LED consumes less than an LCD.
Why buy a TV LED then? In my opinion only do this if the thickness is really low important for the provision of the TV or if you use the TV so much that even the reduced power can be a real asset. In all other cases, the only sensible reason should be: “buy it because I like it” or “buy it because I absolutely want the latest technologies.”
I purposely have not mentioned the Plasma. Because that’s how things are going. It talks about LCD and LED increasingly forgetting who offers quality better. And on this point there’s no ifs and buts that takes. Plasmas are still on the top step. But do little in the media “frenzy”, especially since many homes do not have the capacity and technology to achieve them, so we say that LCD is better. And the curious thing is that because of the silly fashions, are now even more convenient. I saw with my own eyes a Full HD Plasma Panasonic 42 “600Hz sold 789Euro, near a 32″ LED that exceeded the1000 Euro. And the last straw is that it was clearly visible, even to a non-expert eye, that the plasma offered a better quality video. But all admired the LED. Crap.
But we like that, like the absurd fighting megapixel photography (which we know is not a sign of higher quality), we propose and TV advertising with incredible brightness and contrast values. Values that laboratories have certified to be absolutely false and not achievable. But there are people who buy them just for that reason, expecting a better quality video. But in this war of numbers and big words, there’s only one thing you can trust: our eyes. Televisions good quality not seen by the bright colors and strong light (which in fact shows some excesses unrealistic), but the dark tones. The black should be black and not gray and dark tones but not all blacks must be clearly distinguishable from black. These are things most of all identify a good TV. And do not be fooled by those wily retailers who faced a television on which to transmit a signal to another low in HD on which to spin the BluRay-Disc in FullHD. Are all eyecatching forced to make it appear a better model compared to another.
You have to buy a new TV and you decide between LCD or LED? Buy a Plasma and your eyes will thank you, along with yourportfolios. Also according to recent research, plasma TVs also much less stressed out the view. And if you’re thinking about size, know that people say is too big “makes another big blunder. The largest television are more relaxing because it requires less effort visually.
So take the 2,000 Euro which was planning to spend on new TV LED spend half to buy a Plasma (Panasonic maybe) and the remaining money or take a gift to your wife or children. Trust me, you will not regret.
